About

People are going to judge you for what you wear whether you want them too or not.  I will always prefer to be remembered as the girl in the pink stilettos dress than not be remembered at all.   I truly believe that your clothes are an expression of who you are, Rachel Zoe put it more eloquently when she said:

Style is a way to say who you are without having to speak”

This concept often seems to get lost in professional attire. Most people spend more hours at work than anyplace else and your work attire should reflect your style just as your weekend wear.  My office trends more towards business casual but I also attend client meetings and have the opportunity to travel often, each occasion requiring different ensembles befitting of the environment. I love finding new ways to dress for each opportunity and look for inspiration everyday.

In addition to career-style inspiration I wanted stylelex to highlight sustainable and responsible fashion. While I have always gravitated towards having mid-range or high quality investment pieces over cheaper fast-fashion, going for quick splurges at mega retailers wasn’t beyond me. My background is in environmental law and I was inspired to research the environmental and societal impacts of fast-fashion retailers and the fashion industry as a whole. As a result of this research I have stopped making purchases from fast-fashion retail chains and have become more conscious on where my clothes come from. I am by no means perfect but I am making an effort to support small/independent designers, brands that focus on sustainable practices, second-hand retail, and brands manufactured in the USA.

As for me, I’m an attorney in DC living with my fiance, soon to be joined by our first little one….a corgi puppy.  I love anything that makes you sweat, a good glass of red wine, seeing the world, and think nothing beats a warm brownie with ice cream.

Thank you so much for stopping by and visiting my little piece of the interwebs.

“Fashion is the most powerful art there is. It’s movement, design, and architecture all in one. It shows the world who we are and who we’d like to be”
