This is one of those dresses that I remember the exact time and place that I purchased it and my contemplation on buying it. I was in Filene’s in DC (now you know we’re going way back) with two of my best friends from undergrad. I was still contracting and had not started full on adult employment and I was torn on this dress. On the one hand it is a great classic cut but it was so…bold…
Looking back I can’t believe I hesitated on this purchase. I love this dress and it is one of my favorite go-to pieces. Before I purchased this dress I tended to lean towards solid pieces and I can say that this dress was truly my gateway to prints. While the print is bold it is in a neutral color palette of gray and navy with just enough pops of red to keep it interesting. The classic shift shape makes it a classic but modern choice for the office.
If you need to add a topper to this outfit I would suggest a well-tailored blazer in a soft neutral over a cardigan to keep the sharp modern lines of the outfit. This one has leather trim on the color and front pocket to add some interest. A simple nude pump and a soft-hued chunky necklace finish off the outfit.
